Get to know me.

This is the first time I have ever tried a blog and let me tell you… it's a little strange.  I do not find myself to be very website or Internet savvy so it may take me awhile to figure out this whole blogger thing.  Anyway, I'll just go ahead and introduce myself and that can be my first ever blog post.

I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ and that is also where I currently reside.  I am a first semester junior and my major is Public Management and Policy with two minors in Environmental Studies and Marine Science.  I am not a traditional student by any means.  I graduated high school in 2008 and even though I attended college right after, it has take me a while (and a couple semesters off here and there) to really figure out what I want to do.  Sometimes I still think I have no idea what I want to do and that can be frusturating.  However, I am very interested in environmental policy and would like to go to grad school one day and pursue a career in marine affairs and policy.

…. Basically, I want to save the whales and other marine animals, as well as protect their environments and spread awareness about conservation and sustainability.  Other than that my hobbies include cleaning up after my three crazy dogs.  I have two cocker spaniels and a hound mix.  I also like to hang out with my cat, she's pretty much the light of my life and also spending as much time as I can with my husband of almost three years.

Happy blogging everyone.

  1. I'm curious. Growing up in land locked Tucson, what is it that got you interested in Marine Biology?

    1. Hey Chris.
You know, that's a really good question. Growing up I had always been sort of a water dog so to speak and was always interested in dolphins and orcas. As I got older and visited San Diego and other beaches more often I started to feel more at home near the ocean that I ever did in Tucson, and I still feel that way. For some reason I just have a connection with the ocean and an understanding and appreciation for it and everything that lives underwater. Other than that there's not really anything specific that I can think of that drew me to marine biology lol.

    2. I also believe that our oceans are one of the resources we often take advantage of and overlook and we don't consider the damage that we are really causing it. That would probably be where the marine policy side of me comes into play and wanting to have protected areas and things like that.

    3. Well those are good reasons. The ocean is an interesting place with lots to still be explored. I find some of the more isolated habitats really fascinating, like the deep sea methane lakes, trenches, and the newly discovered Sea Anemone living upside down in Arctic sea ice.

I did work one season on the beach monitoring shore birds and sea turtles. One of the best jobs I've ever had, but I must admit that I'm more of a desert rat. Need the dry arid climates of our deserts.
